Hydrogen Ion vs Hydrogen Proton
« on: November 24, 2018, 01:37:38 AM »
Hey there,

I am quite confused as to what the difference between a hydrogen ion and a hydrogen proton is. I see people saying that they are the same thing. But isn’t a hydrogen ion a hydrogen proton surrounded by an electron cloud whereas a hydrogen proton is just simply a proton?

How many electrons in a hydrogen atom?  How many left when you ionize the atom?

I know that there are no electrons left, but what happens to the electron cloud? Does it just disappear?

Electron cloud doesn't exist when there are no electrons (how could it exist?). So yes, it just disappears.
