at first i thought it was some common drink, then i saw the 'acid', :D

for such things u should consult a doctor or obtain approach a pharmacist for antacids; the alkaline substances contained have fewer complications (i should think) than a home-made alkaline one, since the purity is better and the substances involved much less complex.

but come to think of it; no basic foodstuffs come to my mind, for some reason we tend to mainly consume acids.

You could try consuming bird's nest soup, camembert cheese, egg whites, graham crackers, peanut soup, tea, tofu or wax gourd drink.

Out of that list I think tea is your best bet, as most of them aren't beverages! Also mineral water is slightly basic.

Also- don't go overboard with antacids or alkaline stuff because you can get infections since bacteria tend to thrive in alkaline conditions.

Neither did I! I would've thought it is acidic but according to this, tea has an approximate pH of 7.2. I'll take the pH of tea later today if I have the time.

That's a U.S. FDA website, so it's credible. Yea I too thought it was acidic.

If you do take the pH of tea reply with your findings please.

The tea that I used was definately acidic (the tap water I used had a pH of about 7.3), and with constant stirring the pH went all the way down to 5.5, and rose up to about 6.5 when I added milk.

Here is a quote from the website:
Quote from: FDA
Considerable variation exists between varieties, condition of growing and processing methods, etc. Data is presented for the edible portion of foods in their normal and natural state, unless otherwise designated. We solicit your input to this matter. This list will be updated when new information is available. Please contact the LACF Coordinator by phone at 301-436-2411 or email to lacf@cfsan.fda.gov.

So maybe a different variety of tea, like some herbal tea is slighly basic, or the 7.2 is a typo an it's supposed to say 6.2!

sam, if you're looking for anything slightly basic, drink tap or mineral water- it's safe and good for you!
